Thanksgiving
Thank you
for punctured propane tank
pinwheeling through the rapids
like a loose fire hose
finally lodging under our
ruined bridge, spent.
Thank you
for foil of pine beetle pheromone
tacked halfway up a trunk
shining above the waterline
all night to remind us
that we were still safe.
Thank you
for muffled grind of
underwater boulders
stumbling over one another
in the dark
making sand.
Thank you
for relentless drone of
dump trucks building us
back up to
where we were
before it all washed away.
And thank you
for debris-strewn brand
new beach where
morning deer pick their way
between bleached branch and
rock skull.
